INDIGO RIVER ALLIANCE ART

Nila Garner is the founder and owner of Indigo River Alliance Art, LLC. The studio is in the beautiful Pacific Northwest and located where the Willamette and Columbia Rivers converge in the vibrant city of Portland, Oregon.

“Loving and making art is the fiber of my being.” Nila says. “My school years evolved around making art with drawings, paintings and sculpture.” Art is her passion and pottery and sculpture are in her soul.

Each piece that Nila makes is originally designed. She feels that the art of the vase, plate or sculpture must be considered at every aspect of the surface – no space is overlooked. Nila creates beauty and intrigue with her patterned attachments, overlapping pieces of clay and expressiveness of a simple surprise swirl of clay. All of her work combines the bisque form with imaginative glazes and glazing techniques. All of her work is fired with either the atmospheric soda or high iron gas reduction. In Nila’s ceramics world, designs do not have to be spoken loudly but instead creatively whispered with form, color and dimension.

Nila draws her inspirations from the mystical expressions of nature. Nature and beauty of art is all around us. We find the designs of artists in every aspect of our daily lives. The artist’s hands touch and create with passion, vision and inspiration. Our creative imaginations come from the depths of our being. This place is like the deepest indigo blue in the night sky and in the depths of a flowing river.

The name Indigo River Alliance Art came while visiting Kenya, Africa in 2000. Kenya had a deep impact on my life as an artist. The colors all around were an eye banquet with the reddest reds, bluest blues, whitest whites and brilliant crimson yellow. This is where I draw my artistic inspiration – from the depths of earth’s designs and lines, in patterns and textures on cliff’s edges and in the stunning splashes of the sun’s brilliant yellow.

Organic expressions can be seen in my wheel thrown and hand-built vases, dinnerware, plate art, tiles and sculptures. Many of my pieces reach back into the ancient art found in Mesopotamia patterns, Greek idealism and Roman decorative art. I hope you enjoy the Indigo River Alliance Art Gallery and find pieces that you would love to own and collect.
