INDIGO RIVER ALLIANCE ART

Indigo River Alliance Art was inspired and originated in my heart while working with street children and widows in Kenya, Africa in 2000. This beautiful nation is an eye banquet filled with the colors of the reddest reds, bluest blues, whitest whites and brilliant crimson yellow. I imagined lying in the vast grasslands of the African Savannah and seeing the star filled deep indigo blue night sky. Like the night sky, and depths of a flowing river, our creativity lies the deeply in our human imaginations, ideas and dreams.

Nature is my palette — the waves of the ocean, a bird’s wing in flight, the tracks of a red fox in the snow or the visual texture of sea muscles on a rock are captivating and seen in my ceramic’s world. Designs do not have to be spoken loudly, but instead, creatively whispered with form, color and dimension. 

Nature’s expressions are seen in my wheel thrown and hand-built vases, dinnerware, plate art, tiles and sculptures. Many of the featured pieces visit the ancient art forms of Mesopotamian patterns, Greek idealism and Roman decorative art. This can be seen in the patterned attachments, overlapping pieces of clay and expressiveness of a simple swirl of clay. The final touches to my pottery explode with the dipped and poured glazes, hand painted expressions and the intensity of atmospheric high firing in soda and gas reduction kilns.
